As we know most of the part of our body is stuffed with bacteria which even include our mouth. Most of these bacteria present are harmless and also refer as essential, mutual beneficial and also refer as symbiotic.
Body natural defense and proper recommended oral health care guidelines will lead to healthy life.
For it we have to do proper daily brushing and flossing. With these techniques we can keep bacteria under control within our mouth.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
If proper oral hygiene guidelines are not observe in routine way, than the bacteria can grow and reach to the level that may lead to dental infection which will lead to tooth decay and disease of the gum.
Beside the above two there are other factors which effect oral hygiene such as use of medicines by the individual such as decongestant, pain killer, antidepressant, anti-allergic and diuretic. These drug may reduce saliva flow with in mouth. The function of saliva are, it washes food, neutralize acid which is produce by the bacteria which is present in the mouth. Saliva help from invasion or overgrowth of the bacteria which may lead to gum disease and may also affect other parts of the body.
Below are the listed reasons why we need daily dental cleaning.
- Avoid formation of plaque, which is continuously produce.
- Prevent tartar build up by brushing your teeth twice a day.
- Prevent bad breath
- Brushing twice a day will keep your teeth whiter.
- To have healthy gum.
The inflammation of gum or the bacteria present in the buccal cavity may tend to inflammation and this is associated with periodontitis.
Periodontitis, also refer as gum disease. It is common infection of mouth. It damages the soft tissue of gum and the bone which support teeth. Bacterial plaque is recognize as a sticky deposit on the teeth.
Formation of plaque around the gum margins may lead to gingivitis.
Gingivitis is periodontal disease. It is recognize due to redness wit fluffy gum. This will bleed easily when the individual brushes the teeth. Gingivitis may resolve by managing good oral health hygiene. It can done by frequent brushing, flossing and use of antiseptic mouth wash daily and routinely. If plaque persists it may become harder and form tartar or calculus, it is form of hard dental plaque.
There are several studies published which reports the bacteria of the mouth and inflammation may lead to periodontitis which may result in gum disease. Beside it certain diseases such as:
Diabetes, HIV/AIDS also lower body resistance and which result in infection & this may lead to oral health problem

We need to practice daily recommended techniques for dental hygiene.
- Brush the teeth minimum twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.
- Regularly floss the teeth.
- Eat healthy diet.
- Give interval between each meals.
- Plan your routine visit to the dentist at least once a year & it is better if schedule every six month for your checkup and dental cleaning.
- If you are smoker immediately quit smoking. Smoking is bad for overall health and accelerate formation tartar.
- Replace tooth paste every three to four month or if even tooth brush bristle are frayed earlier
Infant & Baby oral health care is essential for life long health.
Child first visit to the dentist is recommended after the first teeth eruption or when baby attain the age of 12 months. Secondly this should be a regular practice for your child to visit to the family doctor or pediatrician at least once a year yearly or early if need arises.
The decay of tooth can start in baby early which is as soon as their first tooth appear.
It is highly important for the parents to teach and follow with their child how to practice daily oral hygiene techniques for cleaning their teeth and gum.
Visit to dentist they will guide us and child how to brush the teeth and follow the oral dental hygiene practice. This will prevent us from tooth decay. The dentist will advise you the following:
- How to clean your child teeth though it is game of patience and time consuming for parents.
- When to start fluoride tooth paste in the child.
- Develop habit of twice a day brushing.
- They will discuss with us how to follow and consume healthy food.
- To have your child healthy smile for life, is to start early good oral health habits, even before child reaches age of one year.
Canadian Dental Association normally refer CDA, recommends first visit of the child to dentist much before the age of one year. The benefit and advantage as mentioned by CDA is to prevent dental cavities and secondly establish child and dentist relationship .progress and to be strengthen as age progress.
If the first visit to dentist is delayed may have serious consequences. This statement is strengthen by Canadian Institute of Health information and in their published report which states that treating early caries are right approach (age 1-6 years) in childhood. This has resulted in reducing one third of all hospital days’ surgeries.
Tooth ache and infections which is due to untreated cavities with in baby may affects the overall child’s health. This may result in child poor growth, loss of sleep, poor nutrition and also result in behavioral problem.
