Know the child’s sleep pattern and its importance.

The children mostly in adolescent age sleep less than the recommended hours per day for them. Little, understood to date about sleep patterns in infants and children.
It is essential for us as a parent, to understand the sleep pattern.
It is crucial for the smooth and healthy life of the children aged from 01month -17 years to get sufficient sleep each day.

If the children, which means infants, children, and adolescents, do not have enough sleep, they are likely to have more adverse health outcomes.
Children of age between 4 months–17 years, as per CDC report, if they comply with regular night bedtime. They are more likely to have enough sleep and be active most of the time during the day.
CDC worked comprehensively along with the National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) in the USA from 2016 to 2018, in which they assessed the prevalence of short sleep in children aged from 4month to 17years. As per the parent report, nearly 35% of children aged 4month to 17years slept less than recommended time as per their progressing age.
CDC further highlights to the Medical Practitioner, General physician, and educators play their role & advice parents to follow sleep hour guidelines for children. Regarding meeting appropriate sleep time and following regular daily bedtime for the child’s healthy development.

Reduce sleep time with the child growing age may be due to various factors, including biological and environmental factors. It is a natural decline in rest time. They are also affected by changes in pre sleep behaviors such as more time spent on-screen, such as watching TV, playing, and engaging in mobile, tablet, or laptop. It results in reduced sleep time and waking up in the morning for going to school.

Certain factors mentioned above affect sleep patterns in children, especially in our Region Indo-Pak. Cultural practices influence children’s sleep patterns the family observes. The children of Asian origin go to bed late, around 10:00 to 11:00 pm, whereas European, American, or in broad terms refer to Caucasian origin children go to bed early from 07:30 to 08:00 pm.
Infants, children, and adolescents who follow regular bedtimes and their parents assure compliance these children were more likely to get enough sleep.
Childs who do not get sufficient sleep hours is at increased risk for disease and injuries. The chances of type 2 diabetes, poor mental health, obesity, attention and behavior problems, and poor cognitive development are likely—The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). They worked intensely, and they provided age-specific sleep duration recommendations to promote optimal health among the future potential of upcoming young children.
The sleep duration refers to 12 hours or more of infants aged 4 to 11 months.
Eleven hours or more sleep duration in children who are aged 1-2 years.
Ten hours or more do have sleep children in aged group 3 to 5 years.
More than 9 hours sleep for children who are aged 6-12 years.
Eight hours or more sleep for adolescents in the age bracket of 13 to 17 years.

Lack of sleep among children will lead to the risk factors affecting poor physical and mental health in infants, children and adolescents. Mothers, especially among the parents, can help babies aged 4month to 17 years to get the proper sleep they need support by good sleeping habits.
Adopting a regular bedtime at night will lead to an excellent foundation associated with more sleep time.
