This week it is observed health care crisis with in Karachi due to spread of 4th variant Delta variant virus. It is the most dangerous form of the Coronavirus till to date and is highly transmissible form of Corona virus.
The media especially the print media such as Daily Dawn, Geo news, express news and so on become the reference source to obtain current and latest update.
This Delta virus has appeared ahead of Eid ul Adha, which resulted in increase in positive cases of COVID-19 within last 6-7days in Karachi.
On average daily increase in patients has resulted in burdened the tertiary care hospitals in Karachi. These hospitals are operating to their full capacity which are run by Provincial and local governments. Such recognize tertiary care health facilities are Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center, Civil Hospital and DUHS (Dow University of Health Sciences), Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (Karachi Medical and Dental College.)
Beside tertiary care hospital other hospitals and health care facilities run by health care authorities in the city and private hospitals are simply refusing to admit and treat COVID-19 (Delta Strain) patients because of the capacity constrain, out of space and sensitivity of Delta strain. This may also affect their other routine admitted indoor patients.
Experts and health care provider fear that this crisis may be deeper more subject to transmission of variant strain of virus.
Generally many people are not complying and following the guide lines issued for Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by health care expert and authorities.
Especially strict compliance needed while visiting public places particularly the cattle market, bazars and the shopping malls before EIDUL ADHA. The fear further strengthen people will go for greet and meet people on EID Days (1-3). This may push the matter to further worsen in coming days. This situation will be beyond the control of government.
The Karachi is having population of more than 230 million, if we includes metro and its suburb area.

The data receive from health expert states, if we consider the health care facilities where beds for Covid-19 are largely available and at same time it is occupied in the Government hospitals. These includes Sindh Institute of infectious disease, Dow University of Health Sciences refer as (Ojha), Civil Hospital, Lyari General Hospital, Qatar General Hospital, Indus Hospital and Sindh government run facility of 140 bedded located at Expo Center.
Limited facility exist within public and private hospitals of Karachi as compare to the effected people approaching to these centers. The health care infrastructure are quite fragile to handle the current situation. The rise of cases will evolve and further rise after Eid Ul Adha holidays.
As per the data provided by the Health Department Government of Sindh, total 45,000 tests were conducted with in Karachi during last week out of which 7600 were positive. Recorded weekly data its average is 17% positive cases. Whereas 17 patients lost their lives in Sindh during last 24 hour. Comorbidities are near to 30% simply this means more than one illness or disease occurring in one person at the same time suffering from Corona virus also.
Spread of Covid Delta causes mayhem and disaster in Karachi city which is resulted in short fall of hospital beds to manage this grave situation. This is widely reported and published as of 24th July, 2021 by the media.
New York Time reported on 22nd July, 2021, the Delta variant virus is spreading worldwide rapidly. It is fueling new fire in shape of outbreaks with in the U.S., mainly it is observe among the unvaccinated people.
As per BBC team which recently published report last week, which states:
Rise in Delta variant virus with in the Asian countries.
Especially they mentioned, within Indonesia rapid rise of Corona cases were observed.
The strain of Delta variant is leading towards rapid rise in Corona cases with in parts of Asian countries.
Whereas the rate of vaccination has been reported quite low in the Asian countries. Due to this situation the fears exists the virus will spread in this Asian region. This will lead to further rise in Covid-19 cases in the affected area.
